De 76-jarige Saunders kreeg een celstraf van 6,5 jaar opgelegd, maar komt in februari 2031 in aanmerking voor voorwaardelijke vrijlating. Saunders werd in 2024 opgepakt. Een jury oordeelde in augustus al dat de ex-bisschop schuldig was aan één verkrachting en twaalf gevallen van aanranding. Hij werd toen vrijgesproken van misbruik van een derde jongeman.
