POLITICSSep 20Anwar was on song in India. Will Malaysia reap the rewards?Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim caused a bit of a stir in India recently with his spirited rendition of a Bollywood classic – a lighthearted moment that also neatly captured his broader push to deepen ties with the South Asian giant. A video of Anwar singing, from memory, Kishore Kumar’s 1965 hit ballad “Khwab Ho Tum Ya Koi Haqeeqat” (“Are you a dream or are you reality?”) was first posted to his social media accounts last Sunday before quickly being picked up by Indian news outlets. POLITICSSep 19India entering transformative era, GDP to reach $38 trillion: NSA Ajit DovalNew Delhi, Sep 19 (IANS) National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Saturday projected a sharp expansion of the Indian economy over the next two decades, saying the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) would rise from the current level of about $4 trillion to $38 trillion. Addressing the convocation ceremony at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, Doval said graduates were entering a transformative phase in the country’s development and would witness significant changes across sectors in the coming years. “Massive changes are taking place in India and the country is moving towards a magnificent future,” Doval said. He further noted that India’s current GDP stood at $4.015 trillion and was expected to reach $38 trillion within the next 20 years. Referring to the government’s vision for the period before the centenary of India’s independence in 2047, Doval said the country was passing through a wonderful Amrit Kaal marked by opportunities for growth and innovation. The NSA also urged students to display courage and conviction in their personal and professional lives. Drawing from Hindu mythology, he cited the example of Lord Ram, saying sage Vishwamitra chose him to confront evil because of his courage and strength of character. Doval also shared lessons from his early career, recounting an experience from his posting in Sikkim where a Sherpa taught him three principles for success. According to Doval, individuals must first understand their current position, then clearly define their destination and finally identify the route needed to reach their goals and return successfully. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed India’s 7.8 percent GDP growth in the April-June quarter and described it as evidence of the country’s strong economic fundamentals and the collective efforts of its people despite global economic uncertainty, geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions. The government has repeatedly cited sustained economic expansion as a key pillar of its long-term development agenda under the Amrit Kaal framework. --IANS ag/thehawk_in · india

WORLDSep 19Puducherry gears up for hosting star-studded India A-Australia A multi-format gamesPuducherry, Sep 19 (IANS) The coastal city of Puducherry is gearing up for a star-studded series when India A take on Australia A in two unofficial four-day red-ball matches, followed by three one-dayers to be played at the picturesque CAP-Siechem Stadium. Since becoming a full member of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2019, the Cricket Association of Pondicherry (CAP) has hosted under-19 international matches. But this will be its first time staging an entire A series, with notable international stars featured in both line-ups. The first unofficial Test will be played from September 22 to 25, while the second game will take place from September 29 to October 2. The three one-dayers will be held on October 6, 9 and 11 respectively. Both teams trained at the ground on Saturday. Peter Handscomb and Ashes-winning pacer Brendan Doggett, along with Jhye Richardson, headline a strong 15-man Australia A squad for the multi-day component, while Mahli Beardman and Spencer Johnson add considerable firepower to the squad picked for the subsequent 50-over games. Test batters, captain Devdutt Padikkal and Sai Sudharsan, who is returning from a right toe injury, feature in both formats for India A. Other capped players in the red-ball India A side include Tushar Deshpande and Anshul Kamboj, with Tripurana Vijay set to replace the injured Vijaykumar Vyshak in the line-up. In the run-up to the matches, India A had a preparatory camp at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. Star seam-bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who has been out of action since IPL 2026 due to various injuries, has been picked for the limited-overs series, with his inclusion subject to fitness clearance. “This is a great opportunity for young Puducherry cricketers to witness live international cricket up close and draw inspiration from these players. The series is also a chance to showcase our world-class cricket facility to a global audience,” said P Damodaren, founder of the Cricket Association of Pondicherry, in a statement. Spectators can contact the CAP office for tickets, according to CEO Mayank Mehta. “The main stadium has a seating capacity of 5000, and we look forward to a considerable turnout,” he added. --IANS nr/vithehawk_in · india
