WORLD5d agoFour held over viral video of assault on protestor during CJP stir in DelhiNew Delhi, Oct 11 (IANS) Four men were apprehended in New Delhi after a video widely circulated on social media showed a protestor being assaulted, according to the police. The footage has drawn significant attention online. The video was reposted by several social media handles, including those linked to the Indian Youth Congress, the All India Students’ Association (AISA) and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). Alongside the video, posters identifying and targeting the individuals allegedly seen assaulting the woman were also shared extensively, contributing to the growing public attention around the incident. According to the officials, the incident took place on a stretch of DDU Marg that falls under the jurisdiction of the Kamla Market police station. Custom Ad: Multiplex The police said that no formal complaint had been received from the victim, nor from any other individual or organisation, at the time of the action. Officials, however, said they subsequently received information suggesting that the accused were preparing to leave the Delhi-NCR region during the night and could potentially evade law enforcement by going underground. Acting on these inputs, authorities initiated efforts to locate the individuals concerned. The move, officials indicated, was intended to ensure that the individuals remained available for questioning and any further legal proceedings that might arise from the matter. Officials said that further action can be taken during the day. Further details are awaited. Meanwhile, Delhi Police have registered over 20 FIRs in connection with attempts to forcibly stage protests in the national capital, officials said on Sunday. WORLD5d agoICC chair Jay Shah extends Navratri wishes, says ‘Maa Durga’s blessings inspire courage and hope'New Delhi, Oct 11 (IANS) International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Jay Shah extended his wishes to devotees ahead of Shardiya Navratri, which begins on Sunday, urging people to draw inspiration from Goddess Durga as the nine-day festival gets underway across India with prayers, rituals and religious observances. "On this auspicious occasion, may the blessings of Maa Durga inspire us to embrace every challenge with courage and every opportunity with hope," Jay Shah wrote on X. His message highlighted the festival’s enduring spiritual significance, with devotees invoking Goddess Durga and her nine manifestations, collectively known as Navadurga, for strength, well-being and prosperity. Observed during the Hindu lunar month of Ashwin, Shardiya Navratri begins with Ghatasthapana, a ritual that marks the start of the auspicious period. Homes and temples across the country prepare for the celebrations as worshippers offer prayers and observe traditional customs to seek divine blessings. Custom Ad: Multiplex The opening day is dedicated to Goddess Shailaputri, regarded as the first manifestation of Durga. Her name translates to ‘daughter of the mountain’, and devotees worship her while praying for strength, stability and well-being. Throughout the festival, each day honours a different form of the goddess, with religious practices varying across regions. Fasting, devotional ceremonies and special prayers form an integral part of the celebrations, reflecting the faith and traditions associated with the occasion. This year, Maha Navami, marking the final phase of the nine-day observance, will fall on October 19, followed by Vijayadashami on October 20. Also known as Dussehra, Vijayadashami symbolises the triumph of good over evil and brings the festive period to a close. Navratri holds particular significance for devotees seeking the goddess’s blessings for peace, happiness and prosperity. --IANS vi/bcthehawk_in · india
WORLD5d agoISL 2026: All-Indian Inter Kashi face star-studded Kerala BlastersBalewadi, Oct 11 (IANS) A fascinating battle of contrasting squad make-ups awaits as domestic-only Inter Kashi host a Kerala Blasters FC in their Indian Super League opening clash at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex on Sunday. With the venue set to serve as Inter Kashi’s home ground for the season, the occasion presents an added challenge as they look to make home advantage count. The hosts will look to draw confidence from their 2-1 victory over the Blasters in Kochi earlier this year, while Kerala arrive with a revamped squad under head coach Ashley Westwood, including four new overseas signings. Inter Kashi enter the season with an all-Indian squad after registering 22 players ahead of a fresh FIFA transfer-registration ban. Their recruitment has brought in several players with ISL experience, including goalkeeper Albino Gomes from Jamshedpur FC, defender Laldinliana Renthlei from Chennaiyin FC, winger Rosenberg Gilbert Gabriel and forward Manvir Singh, both from Jamshedpur, and striker Ayush Chhikara from Mumbai City FC. The challenge will be to turn that experience into a competitive unit against a Kerala Blasters side that has undergone significant changes ahead of the new campaign. The club’s new ownership has overseen an extensive recruitment drive, with head coach Ashley Westwood bringing back the club’s heartbeat, Adrian Luna, while adding four overseas players: English defender James Bolton, winger Andre Green, Montenegro international midfielder Nebojša Kosovic and Guinean forward Momo Yansane. Custom Ad: Multiplex The Blasters have also strengthened their Indian contingent, bringing in experienced goalkeeper Amrinder Singh and midfielder Mohammad Yasir, alongside younger attacking options. Amrinder’s arrival is particularly noteworthy against an Inter Kashi side that also features a goalkeeper with previous Blasters experience in Gomes. Skipper Luna expects a competitive test against Inter Kashi, saying, "Every game here in India is tough. It doesn't matter if you play with an Indian squad or with foreigners." Westwood, meanwhile, has made his ambitions clear ahead of the opener: “Our sole aim is to win every football match and to win trophies.” The Blasters will also be without defender Bikash Yumnam, who is expected to miss around a month with a calf injury. With Inter Kashi seeking to show that their domestic core can hold its own against a revamped Kerala Blasters side, Westwood’s men will be keen to turn their summer recruitment into results. Sunday’s clash will offer an early test of both sides’ ambitions for the new campaign. --IANS bc/vithehawk_in · india
